Lease agreement signed between Duneland YMCA and Duneland School Corporation, making way for the YMCA Healthy Living Campus and its collocated partners.

CHESTERT0N, IN, October 3, 2023 – The Duneland YMCA presented the progression of the plans for the YMCA Healthy Living Campus of Duneland (YHLC) to the Duneland School Board on Monday evening to solidify the lease agreement for the Chesterton Middle School Campus. These updated plans included the first rendering of the future campus’s renovated exterior and floor plans.

The new YMCA will be the anchor of the Healthy Living Campus, and the collocated partners will elevate the visitor experience by providing services that impact a healthy mind, body, and soul. This transformational project is an economic development driver for the community and the region by repurposing and redeveloping property adjacent to a thriving commercial downtown.

“We are excited to continue the partnership with the YMCA and glad our Board approved the final lease agreement,” said Dr. Chip Pettit, Duneland School Superintendent. “The YMCA offers a wide range of programs and services to benefit people of all ages and abilities. We believe this partnership will be a valuable asset to the Duneland Community.”

Expanded programs and increased service offerings at the YHLC will create a destination that addresses critical social and health issues and creates a community where everyone can be Better Together.

“We are grateful to the school corporation for this opportunity. Without their vision and support, none of this is possible,” said Dave Kasarda, Duneland YMCA CEO. “When we devote our full strength to the Y’s mission and cause, work in partnership with others, it can address the most pressing issues of our time.”

The Duneland Y is acting on those beliefs in the plans for the new facility. YMCA membership, programs, and services are available to everyone in the Duneland communities, regardless of their faith, race, ability, age, or income. No one is turned away at the Y because of their ability to pay. In addition to the programs and services offered by the YMCA, the collocated partners will offer access and opportunities on and throughout the development.
